Why So Serious?

So, I've never tried to draw Batman before and I think it came out pretty cool for a first time. I started with a blue pencil, then scanned the actual drawing and colored it in Photoshop. I really like it, I think the composition is pretty cool. I really tried my best with it. I really hope you guys like it too, AG

By the way, I don't know if it's interesting, but I always like to see the process of how things were being created on other artists' creations, so I thought it would be nice to post the process of my work as well

I'm going to Pixar's Masterclass!!!

So, I got some great news! I'm going to Pixar's Masterclass on April '11! It's going to be a 3-day seminar with some of the best Pixar artists\animators ever! I'm really excaited about it all and I can't wait! I'll post some more info about it soon

It's important to mention that the seminar is open to all of the computer animation students at my school, the only thing is that it costs a lot of money lol. Pixar did the same thing last year in Canada and now they're coming over to my hometown, so it's really exciting!

I don't have any info about the seminar yet but I will post some once I have it. Here's some info about Pixar's Mastersclass of last year: http://www.awn.com/news/events/masterclass-pixar-artists

Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde

Quick sketching and coloring in Photoshop

Last Assignment at Schoolism

Man, I can't believe it's been two months since I started taking online classes with Steve Silver over at Schoolism, It's been such a great experience and I'm really happy for taking this class. Steve gave me great direction and advices and I'd like to thank him for that, I learned the fundamentals at The Animation Academy though, Charles Zembillas really helped me to understand the basics, and that basically the most important thing for me, so I'd like to thank him, it's really all thanks to you Charles.

The assignment was to create a character by Steve Silver's description, so here's the description of the character I really tried to do the best with it.
Description: Jerry Loomy. used car salesman boss. New York.2008.A cruel, moody ,high strung, dishonest man. Wears a cheep button down shirt with a vest or sportscoat and a greecey tank top underneath and a tie that doesn't fit. Middle aged, White male Negative attitude towards life. Stocky Build around 5'4". A patch over one eye and missing a finger due to an angry employee biting it off.A large round head with deep set eyes and sunburned skin. receding hairline with a pony tail. mouth with yellow stained teeth.

Fireman

Ok, so this was an idea I had in mind for a real long time. I did a really quick sketch of this character while I was in class and then when I got back home I scanned and colored it in Photoshop. I'm really happy with the result, it's exactly what I had in mind so I'm very happy. I'll upload some more designs of this character soon, I can't wait to start modeling this character in Maya. Hope you guys like it. AG

So today was my 2nd day at school, I really enjoy it. So they gave us like an hour to sculpt one of our characters and I really had no experience with sculpting, but I think it came out real nice for a first time. Sorry for the quality of the images.

Well, I'll post some more stuff later on, when I'm done. Hope you guys like it. AG

It took me a few minutes to create this cute little bouncing ball, I wish I had more time to work on it, the only time I can actually work on these assignment is usually at nights since I work full time everyday. I see all the mistakes I've done with it but still I think it came out pretty well for my first time, plus it makes me laugh every time when I watch this video.

As I promised here's the first stop motion film that we've been working on our first day at school, we were a group of 4 students and we had only 2 hours to create the whole film with no previous experience. So I think it came out pretty well for a first short stop motion film. Hope you guys like it. AG

Suddenly So "Popular" lol

First of all I'd like to dedicate the following drawings to my friend K from work, K and I are overworking together lol. We work almost 12 hours every day and it's crazy hours but it's a lot of fun thanks to you and N. K, don't forget the house with the squares! lol I will never forget that, it makes me laugh every time I think about it. Anyways, here are the drawings.

It's important to mention that I'm trying to develop all sort of different styles when it comes to my drawings, I really want to grow and be able to create all sort of things as an artist so I really think it's important to be open to new styles, basically, the style of the drawings above is really not my style, I usually don't draw like this but I thought it would be nice to try something new for a change.

And as for the designs below, it took me about a few minutes to do the following designs, as I said before on my blog, I started my animation studies and I'm working with a group of cool students on a short stop motion film and I was chosen to design the characters. So I did some VD as a start and created these characters, again, I really did it fast just so we can have an idea of the the character is going to look like in general, it's not the final character.

Well, about a week ago I started school and our instructors gave us an assignment even though we didn't have any experience, they asked us to create a short stop motion film and they gave us about 1-2 hours to create it, they told us to create something really simple and easy so that's what we tried to do. I was in charge of the VD/Character Design and Story. It came out real nice for a first stop motion film, again, we've never done that before so it was a challenge. I will upload the film later on. Check out the stills from the first film we made.

Meet Chip - The Cute Little Robot

So while I was in class, listening to my 2D animation instructor I did this quick sketch of this cute little robot, and then later on after school, I painted it with Photoshop. I think it came out pretty cool for a real quick sketch. I kinda like this character.
The resolution on this one is way better so just click on it to see a larger photo. Hope you guys like it. AG

Before & After

I thought it would be great to post some of my really old drawings so you'd be able to see the process of what I've been through over the last year as an artist, and hopfully it will help you in one way or another. I can see how much I improved since I started my studies at The Animation Academy, that was about a year ago on last September. The Animation Academy was the first school that I attended, it was a dream of mine for years, I used to dream every night about going to that school and studying with the most amazing artists over there for years and it finally came true last year and I'm so so very much happy about it.

Ok, so the drawing on the left is the very first drawing that I did at The Animation Academy about a year ago, and the one on the right is recent. I've learned and grew as an artist so much ever since I started over at The Academy thanks to Charles Zembillas the main instructor and founder of the school.

The drawing on the left I did about 2-3 years ago, I really didn't have any idea what I was doing lol. The one on the right is recent.

I'd like to thank The Animation Academy and Charles Zembillas for all the help. Thank you for the amazing job that you do with your students!

A lot of the top artists in the industry used to take classes at The Animation Academy. Artists such as:

Steve Silver
John Nevarez
Jose Lopez
Chris Ayers
Andre Medina
Chance Raspberry

And the list goes on and on and on, there are so many more.

Be sure to check out the Academy's website:

Well hope you enjoyed this post. I'll upload some new stuff soon. AG

First time I use Oil colors and Gouache

Ok, I thought it was about time for me to learn how to use different colors such as Oil colors and Gouache and stuff like that so I went to store today and I bought some cheap Oil\Gouache colors just so I can learn the basics, so this is my first painting using Gouach and Oil colors. It's nothing fancy but I think it came out pretty good for a first time. Hope you guys like it. AG
